What a toolbox talk is for
A toolbox talk is a short briefing given on site, before or during the work, on one hazard or activity. It is a practical way to give people the information, instruction and training that employers must provide under section 2 of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, and to keep a record that it was given.
Toolbox talks are not named in law, and they don't replace your RAMS. They work best alongside it: the RAMS sets out the method and controls, and the talk briefs the gang on the part that matters that day.

£45 + VAT for one bespoke toolbox talk, or £175 + VAT for five. Each comes with an attendance sheet.
Can I get a toolbox talk today?
Yes. Order and send us the subject and site details by 3 pm on a working day and we issue it the same working day, by business close of play (5 pm). Same-day issue adds +£75 on orders under £200.
Is a toolbox talk a legal requirement?
Toolbox talks are not named in law. Employers must provide the information, instruction and training their people need to work safely, and a recorded toolbox talk is a common way to show it was given.
What do you need from me?
The activity, the site, the plant and equipment involved and anything you want the talk to focus on, such as a near miss or a change to the method.
Is a toolbox talk the same as a RAMS briefing?
No. A RAMS briefing walks the gang through the whole method statement. A toolbox talk focuses on one subject. Many sites use both.
